I wrote these ambient scenes to illustrate how the charr (a war-like feline race in Guild Wars 2) handle matters like childhood and education. Charr children ("cubs") are dropped into boot camp months after they are born. From there, they are trained to serve their legion. Here, a group of cubs are being taught (to a limited degree of success) about animal handling from a grizzled veteran. You can see how these scenes came together here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPjwHqc2ZII
Scene 62: "GATHER EGGS - GATHER EGGS IDLE 01"
Scene Description: Drottot Lashtail needs devourer eggs to raise a team of tamed devourers. The devourer females come out to attack special lures placed in the area. Turn on the lures and, when the females leave the cave, gather the eggs.
CASSIE (curious)
Are the devourer babies going to have a warband?
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE (gruff)
Devourlings aren’t like us. They don’t get warbands. No.
CASSIE
Why?
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE
Because they’re warbeasts. Warbeasts don’t have warbands.
CASSIE (more curious)
Why?
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE (gruff. Wolverine as a grammar school teacher)
Because that’s just how it is!

KAVEN KINDLEBLADE
And that’s why you don’t put your hand in the devourer’s mouth. Okay, next question.
excited
CASSIE
Me, me! I heard you could stop a charging devourer by rearing up on your legs and screaming. Is that true?
gruff, trying to scare sense into the kids
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE
You’ll definitely get it to stop. It’ll stop right on top of you and eat your screaming muzzle right off your face.
in awe
CASSIE
Cool!

JACK

I have a question. Do devourers like human meat? What about sylvari? Asura?
gruff
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE
Your normal devourer will eat just about anything. That’s why you need to train it properly, or it’ll eat you.
curious
JACK
What about devourer poison?
gruff
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE
Devourers will eat and poison just about anything. Doubly so, if they’re angry.

HELENA
Is it true we’ll be able to train any devourer we see in the wild?
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE
Burn my fur, no! We only train devourers in controlled situations. Never, ever approach a devourer in the wild.
alarmed
HELENA
But…
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE
No. Just no.
shutting down this kid verbally

CASSIE
Do we get to take a baby devourer back to the fahrar with us?
curious, eager
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE
No, you certainly do not. The fahrar workers would kill me in my sleep if I let you.
weary and gruff, imagining the headaches this would cause
CASSIE
Awww. But, I’ll take care of it.
disappointed
KAVEN KINDLEBLADE
I said no.
gruff
